Bitting Problems, Will a Bitless Bridle Solve It?
HI, I am having a awful time trying to bit my horse, Charm. Charm will throw her head, pull, and rear anytime we try to get a bit near her mouth! I can rub anything else against her mouth but not the bit. Does anyone have any ideas to help cure this phobia of hers?
Also I have tried the tricks of molasses, apple juice, and whatever else you could think to rub on the bit. NOTHING WORKS!I have spent countless hours trying to help her get used to the bit.
Although I have bought a Indian Bosal and she loves that but do you think it would be fine to use a bitless bridle on her all the time, even when barrel racing? I am an intermediate/eperienced rider so I know how to use a bitless bridle. What do you think?
You are allowed to run barrels bitless, so unless you want to get the horse working on a bit for another reason, you don't have to. I have the Dr. Cook bitless bridle and have used it on my two horses and love it. The transition was very easy from the bit to the Dr. Cook for both horses. My horses had no problem performing their advanced collected work in the Dr. Cook, and I highly recommend it.
However, if your horse already performs well in the Indian bosal, then I would just continue to use it.
If you decide you want to try a mechanical hackamore, I would recommend one with a wide, lined adjustable leather nose band, like the one I'm posting a link to. I have used this one in the past, but I used a leather chin strap, which is milder.............
