I got a 4y gelding who doesn't accept the snaffle bit and I trying the Dr. Cook Bitless Bridle, Is it dangerou?
some friends told me about if my horse runs away I couldn't stop him,
My horse likes to be in the front everytime we go trailing with some others horses,so I have to constantly pulling the reins, but with the snaffle bit he shakes his head all the time and looks umconfortable. By the way I have his teeth floated a month ago . I need your opinion about using the bitless bridle instead the snaffle bit. Thanks
I have, and ride in, a Cook's bitless bridle all the time and love it. That said, my horses did do a "run away" after spooking this past winter in the cook's bitless bridle, and I don't recommend them for a horse known for bolting as they can seem to "run through" them more easily While they are great for starting a youngster in a contained environment, they don't have the "whoa" they brag about on advertisements. And refinement in your ques is reduced.
I suggest working with your boy in a controlled environment (arena, roundpen, etc) and moving up to a heavier bit (not harsher, just with more weight) a curb would likely be your best bet. Do NOT fall into the tom thumb trap, you'll really have problems then, But trying a few different bits, maybe a snaffle with a roller, or going towards a curb, you'll find he'll carry it better and be more responsive.
