Synthetic vs. Leather?

So I'm slowly, slowly moving towards owning a horse. I mostly do trails and whatnot so I need something comfy for me and the horse and durable. I was wondering what the pros & cons of synthetic material vs. leather are? And while you're at it, which synthetic material would be best and why (if you were forced to choose)? I've ridden in an Abetta Endurance saddle and loved the feel of it so much more than any western saddle I've used. But it's got nylon, and I've heard synthetic saddles can stink - is that avoidable?

I'm also looking at this:

for a bridle with the beta biothane. I'll also be getting your standard halter for turn out and what not. Yea or nay?
Haha, yeah, I'd be doing some river crossing.

Synthetic:
Cheaper price, easy care (cleaning), doesn't hold up as long as leather. Doesn't "look" good in a show (probably not relevant to you since you just do trail).

Leather:
More expensive initial cost, takes more care (oiling etc), lasts a really long time, breaks in to fit you just right, looks better quality.

I don't see anything wrong with that bridle if you are just doing trail. The decision is like this: Get synthetic, save money, but might need replaced in the long run. *OR* Get leather, costs a little more but will last much longer.

So whatever is easiest for you at this time money wise or whatever could base your decision.

Also you shouldn't turn a horse out in a nylon "standard" halter. It should at least have a breakaway strap on it.
