Who is the best Natural Horsemanship Trainer and why?
Pat Parelli? Clinton Anderson? Tom Dorrance? Who is the bast and why do you thing so?
I think the best one is the one that helps you. I mean the one that you can relate to and understand the concepts they teach- especially the 'why's. Tom Dorance is the one that mentored almost all of the major names. Including Ray Hunt who is also a huge influence to most natural horsemanship trainers today. I know I would not consider Clinton anderson a top choice of mine after seeing him in person and meeting his wife. I saw him tapping constantly on the colt he was riding with his spurs. I did not see him release or give the horse a break. He reminded me of a reining horse trainer I worked for- that was abusive. It was the same kind of techniques, just not quite as harsh. His wife told me she only uses the twisted wire snaffles he sells at his clinics. That does not seem like natural horsemanship to me. Also durring the entire clinic his wife was running from till to till counting the money they were bringing in from his training aids.
But I would like to say there is something to learn from all of them, even if it is what not to do! I do not tie myself down to one trainer. I read all I can and watch any videos I can get my hands on. I really like Mark Rashid. You should check into him. Also check into Buck Brannaman. Knowledge is power!
