Essentially you have to select from amongst the three various types of World of Warcraft hunter pets. WoW Hunter Pet Guide - Types of Pets
As you make your way through the game of World of Warcraft, there are pets that can be collected to aid your character throughout the game. World of Warcraft Small Pets - Players can acquire small pets either by purchasing them through a vendor, completing quests, through engineering, and as loot by killing specific creatures while playing the World of Warcraft. There are also some pets which are considered to be either Horde pets or Alliance pets. To purchase a small pet of an opposing faction, you will need to go through the neutral auction house which is located in Gadgetzan.
There are so many different kinds of small pets that you can acquire throughout the game of World of Warcraft, you can probably make an army out of them. Here is a small sample of some of the WoW small pets you can attain for your WoW Hunter: pet bombling, black tabby, mechanical chicken, blood parrot, mechanical yeti, guardian felhunter, ghost saber guardian, green wing macaw, hyacinth macaw, jumbling, prairie chicken, lifelike mechanical toad, mechanical squirrel, and the tree frog, and many, many more.
There are so many small pets available in the World of Warcraft that it would take me all day to list them all. In fact, there are many more small pets available for the WoW Hunter class than any other type of pet and it would definitely be worth your time to read through a list of all the pets you can use with your Hunter, so you can decide which one would fit in with your style of game play.
Next, there are the Warlock pets, of which we will examine at a later date. For now, you need to know that WoW Warlock pets are demons that can be summoned and controlled by Warlocks who have training in this dark art.
Now for the Hunter's pets. Pets available to the WoW Hunter class include almost every living beast in the World of Warcraft, which can be tamed by the hunter class. This includes bats, bears, boars, carrion birds, cats, crabs, crocolisks, gorillas, hyenas, owls, raptors, scorpids, spiders, tallstriders, turtles, wind serpents and wolves.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide - Tanking Pets For The Hunter
WoW Hunters Pet Bear - Out of all of the choices of Hunter's pets, bears have the best chance of survivability along with the ability to dish out a moderate amount of damage. The second highest armor along with the highest HP (Hit Points) of all the pets makes the bear one nice "Tank" for your Hunter. For the times when you need them for "DPS" (Damage Per Second), the bears can deal out some damage of their own when called upon. The fact that the bear is omnivorous means that you can save money during feeding time.
WoW Hunters Pet Boar - With HP slightly less than the bear and armor that is equal to or slightly higher than a bears, the hard charging boar makes a great choice as a Hunter Pet. Many people who play the World of Warcraft Hunter class choose the boar as their characters pet because of its ability to "Charge", which works great when grinding and leveling. Like the bear, the boar is also an omnivore.
WoW Hunters Pet Scorpid - In comparison with other tanking Hunter's pets, Scorpid's would be considered to have moderate survival skills. If you are the type of Hunter who likes using poison as a means of destroying your enemies then the Scorpid is just the pet for your Hunter. They have a stackable poisonous attack that when used in conjunction with a "Serpent's Sting" can produce deadly results to multiple enemies. This WoW Hunter Pet Guide recommends the Scorpid as a top notch PvP pet.
WoW Hunters Pet Warpstalker - Similar to the Scorpid in survivability with a "Warp" attack that can be used in much the same way a boar uses its "Charge" to speed up your fighting time.
WoW Hunter Pet Guide - Other Tanking Pets For The Hunter Class
Other Hunters tank type pets you might consider using as a change of pace are crocolisks, crabs and tallstriders. As tanks, you would be better off using the ones previously mentioned because their stats make them better suited for the job. The HP and armor stats for the crocolisks, crabs and tall striders make them borderline tank pets.
WoW Hunter Pet Guide - Fighting Pets (DPS) For The Hunter
Here is a list of Hunter pets who are great for dealing out damage to the enemy. The damage these pets dish out is usually measured by DPS (Damage-Per-Second). The higher your pets DPS, the more damage will be inflicted upon your enemy. When choosing your DPS pet, it is important to find out what skills and abilities it has along with its DPS score. This will tell you what type of damage it will inflict and for how long.
WoW Hunters Pet Cats - Of all of the pets available to the World of Warcraft Hunter class, cats have the ability to attain the highest DPS and inflict the most damage with special abilities like Prowl and Claw.
WoW Hunters Pet Raptors - This Hunters pet is our second choice for delivering some major damage and only its lack of an ability or two stops it from being our favorite lean mean killing machine.
WoW Hunters Pet Ravager - If the sound of a name added to the overall damage dealt by a Hunters pet, then the Ravager would be one tough hombre and at the top of our WoW Hunter Pet Guide. But alas, this Hunters pet is tied for second because its primary ability "Gore" only dishes out double damage sometimes.
WoW Hunters Pet Owl - One of the best Hunters pets is a great weapon to hold in reserve. Imagine your enemy, grinning ear to ear as he is coming in for what he thinks is an easy kill. He's confident and why not? He's got so many offensive and defensive "Buffs" on his character, he has buffs on his buffs. Now its your turn to smile as you bring out your secret weapon; your Hunters Pet Owl. You see, one of the Owls special abilities is to "Debuff" an opponent. That's one awesome ability!
WoW Hunters Pet Wind Serpent - Although this Hunters Pet is somewhat mediocre when it comes to damage melee stats, the Wind Serpents "Lightning Breath" is the most damaging ability in the game. The Wind Serpent would be our best Hunter pet if it had higher damage melee stats.
