why do people think a saddle is so important to their riding?
okay, i no saddle fit is very important for the horse, but why do people think so for the rider? i've ridden in all sorts of saddles, from ovation to cwd. i no the cwd was most comfortable, but it didn't impact my position much. Are people just trying to blame their mistakes on the saddle?
Different saddles are built for different disciplines. The reason behind the style of saddle have evolved over many many years. They put the rider in the proper position for that discipline and each is different in a lot of ways.
In western for example. A rope saddle is designed to hold a calf and to allow you to stand up and lean forward to be on the correct position to through the rope. A WP saddle is designed to let the rider sit up and have proper leg Poisson. A reining saddle is designed in a much different was from a WP saddle as you do not want to sit up that straight. You need to be able to move your legs forward more which a WP saddle will not let you do. A barrel saddle is made to be light weigh and small. Would not work very well as a rope saddle. A cutting saddle again is designed to put the rider in the proper position so the rider can stay in position to work the cow and lock them selves in and still move their legs and seat as needed. Some saddles are a mix so you can do different disciplines. Like reined cow horse. However I just use my reining saddle for that but I know trainers who have saddles just for reined cow horse events.
