Remember those old western movies? You know, the ones where tough cowboys would duke it out in an old-fashioned shoot out, risking their lives in the Wild West. More importantly do you remember their shoes? From spurs to heels, cowboy and cowgirl boots have seen a massive evolution over the years. But you don't need to be a cowboy or cowgirl to wear these western-style boots. Cowgirl boots are extremely trendy and thanks to many fabulous brands out there, are now available to suit anybody's tastes and budgets. But where do you go when finding the right cowgirl boots? Here's a complete buyer's guide to finding the perfect pair.
Shoe Retailers
One of the most obvious choices to finding a pair of cowgirl boots is heading to the nearest shoe retailers in your neighborhood. Many department stores and specialty stores have decent shoe departments. However a common problem that you might run into is that the selection of cowgirl boots is limited. Stores like Macy's and Nordstrom do carry western boot brands like Frye, but their selection varies. On the other hand, shoe retailers like DSW do carry a huge selection of shoes, but again it depends. However it's definitely worth a visit.
Similarly, another great source you might want to check out is online shoe stores. One of the more popular websites, Zappos.com houses thousands of types of shoes with one click of the mouse. Besides its massive inventory, prices are not as steep as you would think. For instance I saw a pair of black cowgirl boots at Zappos.com from Madden Girl (a brand of Steve Madden) for about $70; an awesome find, considering how chic these cowgirl boots look. Plus here's another incentive, lots of online stores offer free shipping, so look out for those before going through check-out.
Bargain Hunters
If you're looking for something that won't hurt your wallet, there are a bunch of places and websites you can venture out to. On the discount online store Gojane.com, I found a selection of cowgirl boots, one even selling for $15! What a steal! Even old standbys like eBay.com always have a load of cowgirl boots selling for practically nothing. From brand names to nondescript labels the internet has everything that suits your needs.
For those thrifty mavens that don't care to go online, a place you might want to consider visiting is a consignment (or thrift) store. For real deal cowgirls our there looking for some authentic western footwear, there is no better place to look than cowboy outlets. However since most of us don't live by these retailers, the next best thing is to look online. At the top of the list is Sheplers.com, a cowboy retailer that has been around for over 100 years. The company has a massive collection of every type of cowboy and cowgirl boots imaginable. One of my favorites from their website is an Oasis boot which is accented with distressed fringe; a beautiful piece that would look fabulous with a pair of short-shorts and a western top. Just keep in mind a pair of premium cowgirl boots come at a hefty price (the Oasis fringe boot costs about $100), but that's what you pay for quality.
